UP
Penciled picture, outline and shadow areas. Male model from Bulgaris 'Aqua' fragrance ad. No scanner here, took grayish picture with camera and brightened it up with opacity change and levels / curves, blending settings to darken. White frames with layer mask on.

MIDDLE
As background, after some other tests, a simple color layer with blending (saturation it was this time) and opacity adjustments. The paper's texture and shadows are showing through.
The hard part, painting. Bits of art class education and Sirasan's great painting a face tutorial here on deviant. Many hours, many layers and nearly as many layer masks. Trying to work with colors.

DOWN
Seeking light shadows, shadowed lights and the ultimate dark (no highlights this time).
Rather going a bit overboard and having fun with than being afraid of trying and learning.
Last on a photo filter (luminosity 25% this time). It smoothes out my colouring mistakes, creating the look of colored light all over the painting.
